I plan to install Linux instead but I'd like to know a little more about it before I got it, anyone wanna help?

I'd dual boot. Pretty much you install windows first, then defragment (pretty important that you defrag) and then resize the windows partition to make room for linux with a tool like gparted, and then install linux. As for distros, my favorite is OpenSuse, but i know some people that favor Ubuntu and other distros as well.
