Fixing a broken laptop

Ok so this is my last attempt to fix my laptop. first let me tell you what happend:
my laptop has had a broken USB port in the back it is all warped.
i pluged my laptop into the wall and then, by mistake plugged the power cord into the usb port causing a power surge.
so at that point it promptly crashed. when i tryed to reboot it would freeze on the windows load up screen. nothing would load, not even save mode or windows CD. it would just freeze at one point, i tryed using a linux live CD and even that froze.
More info:
its a Toshiba satellite model A65
it ran windows XP SP 2.
so dose any one know whats wrong with it and how to fix it?

You can get to the Windows boot screen? (not just the bios that is) If so I'd take the laptop apart and try disconnecting the usb component from the motherboard. Unless of course it is on board, then i don't know. In my laptop though the usb ports are on a separate card. It would be worth a shot i think, even if it is an educated guess.

yeah i agree with ih8censorship.

there was one cool thing i heard is if you pull all the power plugs out something about left over electrical currents would leave your comp. it worked for me once when my usb ports messed up. i pulled the power for about 30min and poof it worked after that. but from what im seeing yours might of been unplugged for a while.

If the laptop boots long enough to freeze on the windows load then, there is a chance you may have fried your MB's USB controller or southbridge chip. If that is the case you probably need to replace your Laptop's MB.

The only other possibility is that your laptops power distributor's 5 volt supply is has been damaged, if that is the case you just need to replace the laptops power distributor.

It really depends on which pins you managed to touch. (How did you get a round adapter into a USB slot anyway?)
Considering the size and shape of your power cable I'd guess probably on the MB. If you have an accidental damage insurance plan on it then you may be able to get it fixed for free, otherwise your probably better off getting a new laptop.
